Symbolism

The 72 Seals of Solomon are magical symbols representing demonic spirits, used in magic to summon and control them in the hope of gaining their favor or power. Each seal corresponds to a specific spirit, with its own name, rank, and attributes. These seals are believed to grant the magician a degree of control over the summoned spirit and can also protect them from the negative effects of the invocation.

He rules over more than 40 legions of demons. He has knowledge of past and future events, reconciles friends, and reveals the meaning of all questions posed to him after being summoned. He is depicted as a baboon.
The Goetia defines Xenophilus as “a strange and sad creature.” Another possible reference to “Cyaenophallus” could be “cynocephalus”—the winged creature that illustrates the Wheel of Fortune card in the Tarot and perhaps alludes to wisdom in a way similar to Thoth. Lisa Pekarski writes: “Cynocephalus rests at the bottom of the Wheel of Fortune in contrast to the sphinx at its top. Darkness and light, just two more signs of universal duality.”
